Also gets Pop time to work with young guys which could be more beneficial to the Spurs than working with guys like Harden, KD, LeBron, etc.

What? Because imagine how valuable a 2 week camp with Pop and some of the leagues best players would be for a 22 year old up and comer.
He clearly gained what he needed from it and didnt see the next few weeks as worth it for 7 minutes a game or w/e.
Pop doesnt mind now he can put his own guy on the team in white without anyone yelling favorites. Fox did him a favor.

I mean, all of the world's major soccer leagues have been starting back in the last few weeks, too. It's not just (American) football.
For basically any international tournament, July is a sweet spot to keep from competing with other sports and leagues.

it makes no sense from a business or personal perspective. it's second-rate basketball with all the real risks of injury
the reason non-americans care more is because they're the underdogs. americans are supposed to win so there isn't much to be gained, only to be lost.
